Première Moisson has created some decadent maple-infused breads for sugaring-off season.
The maple braid is a moist, mellow Viennese dough braided by hand, sprinkled with crunchy nuggets of maple with pure maple fondant drizzled on top. You’ll need to practice restraint with it.
It’s definitely a treat more than a staple: Each loaf costs $5.95 — not surprising given the cost of maple syrup (thanks, Quebec maple federation!) — and a slice is like dessert. So good.
Première Moisson suggests slightly heating it, but not too much to melt the fondant. Or, reach into the bag and rip off a huge hunk before leaving the store. It worked for me.
Another offering is a maple-pecan loaf with granulated maple sugar and pecans on top. Inside, there’s rice, sorghum, chickpea and broad bean flours. It costs $6.95.
Both breads are on sale through end of April at all Première Moisson bakeries.
