Maladjusted is a play that humanizes mental health. It is created and performed by patients and caregivers. The show is the brainchild of the Theatre for Living of Vancouver, and it toured Alberta and British Columbia a year ago, and is now here in a bilingual, interactive experience.

You’ll see Pierre Leichner, the real-life psychiatrist who left his profession as he became disillusioned with it, and moved into the arts as a multimedia artist. He plays the character of an exhausted and nearly retired psychiatrist.

RACOR Mental Health is putting on the immersive experience, where Leichner will interact with the public. It’s a chance to see how the mental-health system operates elsewhere in Canada. Is it better than here?

The show happens on Thursday at the Centre Saint-Pierre at 1212 Panet St., Room 200, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free, though voluntary contributions are welcome at the end of the session.

Theatre for Living’s work is theatre for a number of areas: social change, dialogue creation and conflict resolution,  community healing and empowerment.

If you’re curious about the organization, see more on its Facebook page.
