Over six weeks, Craig Morrison, Montreal’s popular ethnomusicologist, will lead a music-appreciation course about the Beatles. It’s about to start, at the Cummings Centre, at 5700 Westbury Ave.
The series will use recordings, live music, film clips, photos and lyrics to explore the Beatles’ music, what it means, and how it evolved.
The Beatles, of course, have been described as “the 20th century’s greatest romance.”
Morrison, for his part, has been described as a Montreal institution. That’s what Gazette columnist Bill Brownstein has called him. “Think of Morrison as a prospector,” Brownstein has written. “If there is musical gold to be mined anywhere on the planet, he will find it.” Morrison is a musician, professor and author known for his annual Roots of Rock and Roll Concert.
The Beatles series runs Monday, May 2, to June 6 and Tuesday, June 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost: $90 member / $120 non-member. Register here or call 514-342-1234.
The Beatles have only recently joined the live-streaming party. You can catch them here. Think of it as advance homework.
