The wife of Habs goalie Carey Price has revealed that the birth of her daughter a few weeks ago was not exactly a cakewalk.

On her blog on Tuesday, she gave a frank, blow-by-blow account of the birth, which came a full week after her due date of April 29.

And let’s just say that having a star goalie right there only goes so far in the pain department.

On being overdue: “That week of being overdue was so uncomfortable and filled with horrible cramping, light contractions and literally no sleep.”

On the pain, part 1: “It is funny, you always hear women talk about the pain, but I definitely underestimated just how bad it would hurt. I hard labored for what seemed like a lifetime. In reality it was about and hour.”

On the pain, part 2: “I was still only between 3-4 cm, so in came the oxytocin and the epidural (hallelujah). The epidural was a game changer. It was like I was in complete darkness, I had forgotten the sun was shining and that Carey and my mother where even there. But with that amazing epidural I felt like it was a new day and I felt like a new person.”

On the arrival of little Liv Anniston Price: “The oxytocin really did its job, and I progressed from 4 cm to 8 cm in just a short couple of hours. Before I knew it it was go time. I pushed for about 45 minutes, then little miss Liv finally made her debut right before 8 p.m.

On Liv’s first minutes: “She was a bit “limp” (as they put it) when she came out and was having a little difficulty breathing so she was only on my chest for a few seconds before she had to be taken away. I am sure I annoyed the heck out of the nurse asking every 10 seconds if she was okay! But they got her all figured out and breathing fine just a couple minutes later so then we were finally able to get some snuggles in with our little girl.”

Price said she shared the information because she has been getting a lot of questions about the birth.

A reader who identified herself as a labour and delivery nurse praised Price for deciding to go without a birth plan. “I hear so often first-time moms with all these crazy birth plan (sic). Then when all doesn’t go expected, they are so disappointed and lose sight of the end goal and result,” the woman commented on the blog. “I love that you wanted to “ride the wave” and see were it took you. I also love that you remember that, yes, it might have not been exactly the way you wanted it to go, but in the end you got a healthy mom and and healthy baby and that, my friend, is priceless!!

Price shared a photo of baby Liv on Twitter and Instagram a few days ago.

In October, Price blasted media after news of her pregnancy was leaked by a website before she and Carey had even had the chance to tell many people.
